Chatting with 13-year-old Queen Teen Drummer Alexey Poblete

By Raven, Rock At Night Columnist

Welcome to The Ravens Nest! Today we are featuring 13-year-old phenomenal drummer Alexey Poblete from North Hills, California.  Alexey is the current drummer for the all female band Moxy and The Influence, a rock band based out of Los Angeles, and the heavy metal thrash band Antitrust, which is based out of Las Vegas, Nevada.  She formerly drummed with AC Generation and House of Domini.

Alexey was born in Singapore since her father’s employment was based there. Her parents are both from Philippines and she is the youngest child in the family, which moved to the US before her first birthday. Alexey had her first drum lessons when she was 18 months old in 2009–and drums have been her passion ever since!

Alexey is a young star with many awards including the Next Great Drummer Competition (Beginner Category) held in Las Vegas, Nevada.  When she won she had only been playing for six months. She later won an award in a contest held at Knott’s Berry Farm in Los Angeles.  In 2011 ALEXEY won a drum competition held in Las Vegas but this time she was placed in the Intermediate Category, She won First Prize for the Next Great Drummer contest promoted on YouTube in February 2012 and was a Finalist for the Air Drumming Contest held on the Drum Channel. She performed on the stage with Miss Patti LaBelle at the Long Beach Jazz Festival with The Next Great Drummer All Star Band.  Additionally, she has been performing on stage with her brother, who plays piano in local charity events (www,WonderChild.org).  Last but not least, Alexey is the Ex drummer of AC Generation and House of Domini.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Alexey and learning a little bit more about this young powerhouse.
