Broadside turns The Orpheum into Paradise for the night

By Brent Michael, Rock At Night Tampa Correspondent

Venue: The Orpheum, Tampa, Florida–May 25, 2017

Broadside is a pop punk band from Richmond, Virginia that now calls Los Angeles home. They are signed to Victory Records, and were listed as one of the 100 Artists You Need To Know in 2015 by Alternative Press. Certainly the fans knew them, as Tampa gave them an enthusiastic welcome while they played their popular songs and new songs from Paradise, their latest release. The crowd surfing was just getting started as they built on the energy from Nothing, Nowhere.

First formed in 2010, the band’s current lineup consists of original members Niles Gregory, Guitar; Dorian Enrique Cooke, Guitar; Ollie Baxxter, Vocals;who replaced their original singer in 2013; and Pat Diaz, Bass Guitar, who joined up in 2015. Their tour drummer is a mystery, their former drummer left in 2015, and no drummer is credited as part of the band. Whoever he was, my advice would be to keep him if you can!

Of course, the energetic vocals of Ollie Baxxter were also complemented by the high-flying antics of Niles Gregory and the solid work of Dorian and Pat – Pat even added a few hair whips into the mix, and though they’re not going to be mistaken for a metal band, they did a great job of pumping up the crowd!

They’re on tour with Real Friends, Have Mercy, Tiny Moving Parts, and Nothing, Nowhere throughout August. To all my Northern/Midwestern friends: Catch their act!
