Reggae legend Don Carlos brings the house down in Amsterdam

Reggae legend, Don Carlos and the Dub Vision Band performed last night at Amsterdam’s Melkweg as part of the HollandReggae Festival. Playing to a packed house, Don and his large band got the crowd groovin’ from the first beat. There is a large reggae following in Amsterdam and they all came out to show their love for the Rasta Master.

Don is one of the original members of the roots vocal group, Black Uhuru, which formed in 1973. He first performed in Amsterdam in 1983 and has been a regular visitor ever since. ‘I love Amsterdam’ he repeatedly told the crowd in between songs, and the feeling was obviously mutual. Also joining Don on stage were his two sons, Carlos and Don (I wonder where those names came from), who provided vocals in a couple of songs.

Don and the band played many favourite hits including Righteous Chant, Holiday and Young Girl. After a deafening encore, the band returned with Just a passing Glance, a classic hit from 1984.

Don Carlos was supported by Christos DC, who, performing with The Dub Vision Band, warmed up the crowd with his reggae, soul/jazz repertoire. He has performed on and off with Don Carlos for many years.

Don Carlos and the Dub Vision Band are touring Europe over the next two weeks, performing at all the famous Reggae festivals. Make sure you check them out if you get a chance.
