Here I am back at the Lincoln Theatre on a Sunday evening to see another artist that I never had the chance to see, let alone photograph. Mister Eric Johnson.  My editor asked me to arrive early and catch the opening act, Arielle. I’m glad she did.  I was very impressed by this young lady’s performance. What a beautiful voice! Arielle is also a great multi-instrumental player too–she is the total package!  Arielle served as the perfect opening act for guitarist extraordinaire, Eric Johnson. I would definitely want to see her as the main act sometime soon. She could be the love child of Diana Krall and Joe Satriani–that would give you an idea of how Arielle sounds.

And then she introduced Tommy Taylor, Kyle Brock and Eric Johnson.  What a great segue!   I first heard Eric Johnson when I was still living in Brazil and he recorded with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on the first G3 project tour.  This introduction led me to Ah Via Musicom, which was the first Eric John solo album I listened to, and “Cliffs of Dover” has stuck with me since then. What a perfectly melodic song!

I was excited to know that he would be performing the Ah Via Musicom album in it’s entirety. It is always great to see an artist listening to the fans feedback. The show yesterday evening featured songs split between five covers and five original numbers, before Eric performed Ah Via Musicom.  The whole show was a mix of style, feeling and charisma, played flawlessly by a trio of musicians with an incredible chemistry between them.  It was guitar music at its best–and a very enjoyable show.  I highly recommend catching an Eric Johnson concert if you love blues and really quality, soulful guitar work.

  1. Gus, nice story on EJ! great Photos too!! I had the good fortune of seeing Mr. Johnson and Arielle up in Seattle WA at the Triple door. Great show. Incredible guitarist. Well worth the tickets. (I got a box for some of my Seattle music buddies) Fell into the great luck of getting a autographed copy of Arielle’s “My Gyspy Heart” I was amazed how good the disc is. Good times for sure and a wonderful evening!
