Toadies tour to promote release of Heretics album

TAMPA BREAKWAY FESTIVAL – April 26th-27th

TAMPA BREAKWAY FESTIVAL – April 26th-27th

Rock At Night has listened to the Toadies’ new album Heretics which will be released on September 18th.  The album has a few new songs including “Belly of a Whale” and “Queen of Scars” as well as the cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.” Some of you may have seen this rendition on YouTube and I have to say I almost like it better than the original. It’s almost unrecognizable except for the telltale chorus.

Classic Toadies songs like “Possum Kingdom”, “Tyler”, and “Backslider” are revamped but I love the fresh alt-indie sound. It is not 1990s headbanger-mosh-pit-music but really Millennial.  Acoustic does not mean “mellow” by all means because it still rocks.  I have played the CD repeatedly on the stereo (yes, I am “old school”) and each time I listen, my affection grows stronger.  Once a Toadies fan, always a Toadies fan.

I really think people are going to dig the intimate setting they are planning to create during the Fall tour. My only regret is they are not coming back to Florida!

To support their forthcoming album (Heretics, out September 18th via Kirtland Records), Toadies will be hitting the road in September, kicking off with the 8th annual Dia De Los Toadies Festival in Ft. Worth and an October run of historic Texas Dance Halls including Gruene Hall, Luckenbach and Schroeder.

Toadies drummer Mark Reznicek on playing these particular places: “Being from Texas, and influenced and inspired by all things Texan, we wanted to go back to the roots of Texas Music. The more laid back feel of our music on Heretics suits the vibe of these old wooden-floored dancehalls. It seems like a perfect fit”

See Vaden Lewis and Mark Reznicek talk about the stripped down gigs:

Dia De Los Toadies takes place September 11th and 12th on the banks of the Trinity River at Panther Island Pavilion. For the third year in a row, Dia is returning to Toadies hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. The festival is celebrating its eighth year and keeping the tradition alive with local Texas talent as well as national acts hand-picked by the band.

Dia de los Toadies kicks off the first night on September 11th with an almost-acoustic performance by the Toadies at The Shack on Panther Island Pavilion with Sarah Jaffe playing a rare solo acoustic opening set. The night will be extra special as it’s the release party for Heretics.   Festival goers purchasing a Friday ticket or weekend pass will receive a signed copy of Heretics at Dia – a week before the street date!

The second day of Dia De Los Toadies will take place across two stages on September 12th. This year’s line-up includes Burden Brothers, Local H, Holy Moly, Buck Pets, Sealion, Son of Stan, and Gollay. Dia de los Toadies promises the best beer (Including their own limited batch of Toadies Bockslider Beer brewed by Martin House), finest of food trucks, and a hell of a rock show curated by the Toadies themselves.

Tickets for Dia De Los Toadies are on sale through Prekindle. For information on tickets, lodging and more visit www.diadelostoadies.com and follow the festival on Facebook and Twitter (@DiaDeLosToadies) for more announcements.
