Yes and Toto serve up a double headline treat in Clearwater, Florida

By Chyrisse Tabone, Tampa Correspondent

Venue: Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, Florida–August 23,2015

Rock At Night was thrilled to see a truly classic 70’s and 80’s rock extravaganza with two headlining bands–Yes and Toto.  Ruth Eckerd Hall was totally a full house of silver-haired rock aficionados sporting the usual black tour shirts, acid-washed jeans, and sneakers.  Toto had their full cadre of musicians including back-up singers, who belted out popular hits from the 80’s like “Rosanna” and “Africa.”

The Yes concert started on a sad note as total darkness filled the stage except for a spotlight highlighting a lone white Rickenbacker bass.  Photos of the late Chris Squire appeared on a screen in the background.  The band currently has Billy Sherwood, who has big shoes to fill, and the current lead singer is Jon Davison, whose voice has an uncanny resemblance to Jon Anderson.  Yes played a few of their progressive rock numbers like “I’ve Seen All Good People” and “Roundabout” and 80s hits like “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” Magnificent guitarist Steve Howe played a breathtaking acoustic solo “Clap.”
