Venue: The Token Lounge, Westland, Michigan–September 29, 2015
One-Eyed Doll: Kimberly Freeman and Jason Rufuss Sewell AKA “Junior”; Genre: Rock ‘n’ Roll; Hometown: Austin, Texas
The lunar eclipse, death all around, and the warmth being drained from the air tell us only one thing: One-Eyed Doll Halloween 2015 Tour has come. Witches, demons, and the living dead were in attendance this past Tuesday at the Token Lounge in Westland, Michigan to be taken to Hell in the nicest way by their new friends Kimberly and Junior. This year One-Eyed Doll is traveling with Run 2 Cover and Stitched Up Heart, two really powerful and energetic bands, as well as local support from each stop.
For those who don’t know – it’s not proper to start a sentence with a preposition. But, also, One-Eyed Doll is a two-piece Rockabilly, metal, not so-family-values band. They recently released their new album Witches which (ha!) is a concept album about the Salem Witch Hysteria. Playing songs from their new album on tour, lead lady Kimberly stimulated the audience by educating us on some fact and theory about the trials of 1692. She started enlightening on matters such as religion and encouraged crowd participation – she even invited some of the attending on stage for a Trick-or-Treat edition of their song “Be My Friend“. Kimberly then proceeded to thrash on the guitar, perform high-kicks in the air, and bend over backwards on the floor while playing the electric guitar. It was a sight to behold! I was absolutely captivated!
“One of the greatest shows I’ve experienced”
So… it was a small crowd, and they all hugged super close to the stage. It was a very intimate feeling. They were responsive to every prop and ploy Kimberly pulled, and wanted more.
One-Eyed Doll is a different sort of show. They are so warm, personal, and interactive with their audience it almost leaves the realm of metal show and feels like one of those shows or events that you have to see while you’re vacationing. It is theatrical, musical, and absolutely amazing! Luckily, you can just wait for them to come to you!
