Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers bring their brand of quirky alt-gypsy-folk music to The Netherlands

Venue: Neushoorn, Leeuwarden-The Netherlands–December 24, 2015

The the heavy bearded Canadian artist Ben Caplan and his band The Casual Smokers are touring through Europe during the winter. On Christmas Eve, he was playing at venue Neushoorn (means ‘rhino’) in Leeuwarden, a city in the north of The Netherlands.

Before the concert he and the band had a Christmas Eve-dinner with his fans, in the small and cozy restaurant of the venue. RAN had dinner with Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers and later enjoyed the concert.

Ben Caplans voice sounds raspy and rugged, and he is a performer with charisma. His music is fueled by melodrama and powerful lyricism that sets Caplan apart from his peers. It is a powerful mixture of blues, rock and folk. For some people, he is the “new Tom Waits” but Ben says with a friendly smile: “No, I’m Ben Caplan.”
