VENUE: The Satellite Bar, Houston–Striker with Spellcaster, Weresquatch and Mastea
I have to admit, when I was asked to cover this show I was a little bit apprehensive. My favorite band is Depeche Mode, I’m a huge fan of Kraftwerk and l love the nerdiness of Devo. Needless to say..metal has never been my thing. However, I DID photograph King Diamond last year and was completely awestruck so I decided to move away from my comfort zone again and step knee deep into some long luscious locks, insane vocal pipes and banging heads!
Striker is a Rock At Night favorite and I found out why within an hour of showing up at the club. Guitarist Timothy Brown walked into the bar with a long mane of wet hair, looking freshly showered. He had a smile on his face as I introduced myself. Not long after that, drummer Adam introduced himself, smiling. In fact, I don’t think I saw one band member in Striker that did not have a smile. What a friendly group of guys!
The small stage did not keep them from putting on a highly energized show. Singer Dan Cleary’s strong vocal acrobatics went perfectly with the pounding beats and driving guitars. It was awesome photographing them because they gave me the best poses, smiles and lots of hair all up in my camera. LOVED IT!
Look SOON for Rock At Night’s Q&A interview with Striker!
