REVIEW: BLEEKER EP by BLEEKER

Bleeker - EP, BleekerCanadian rock band’s self-titled EP is the first under the band’s name “BLEEKER” (formerly known as Bleeker Ridge) and with the label Five Seven Music. The EP was released on March 26, 2016, which coincided with the band’s tour in California and Arizona with UK rock band The Struts. They are currently on a 23-city US Tour with Sublime with Rome, The Dirty Heads, and Tribal Seeds. You can find out more about the band in Rock At Night’s interview HERE.

Here are descriptions of each song:

Highway—This is the first single from the EP. A real classic rock or even 80s rock feel with a catchy chorus—but also sort of a dirty blues-rock feel. The band has a video for this song and watching it made me want to hear more!

Free—This song has a blues-rock, 60s vibe in the beginning and then melds into a very hard driving, hard-rock sound, similar to Led Zeppelin or even Thin Lizzy. There are lead guitar solos, a driving bass beat, and nice cymbal touches you often hear in classic rock music.

Where’s Your Money—This song is another hard-rock, Led Zeppelinesque song with very cool vocals that are infectious. The music is similar to The Struts so fans of that band will definitely love this.

I’m Not Laughing Now—This song is really a pretty ballad—a sweet melody which has a sing-along chorus. It really is a nice sweet welcome touch to the mix.

Erase You—The song starts off slow with almost a psych-rock/ 60s’s feel with its full, vocal harmonies. Then, the song breaks into a hard rock Led Zeppelinesque song with Plant-ish type wails and screaming guitar solos. Very nice, guys!

Overall, fans of classic hard rock or 60s or 70s blues-rock will definitely play this EP over and over. The genre may also be described as alternative garage rock—real music with real vocals. The more you listen to it, the more you will crave a full album.

Members: Taylor Perkins (vocals), Cole Perkins (guitar, vocals), Mike Van Dyk (bass), and Chris Dimas (drums); Home town: Orillia, Ontario, Canada; Genre: hard rock, blues-rock, alt rock
