Venue: Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre, Tampa, Florida–July 2, 2016–Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Of Mice & Men–Review of Marilyn Manson and Of Mice & Men
What could be a more fun and exciting evening than seeing Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, and Of Mice & Men all together at one time? Yes, the Florida Credit Union Mid-Florida Amphitheatre was the place to be on Saturday night in Tampa Bay Florida. I missed Slipknot last year when I was in London shooting photos so this was going to be a treat. What can I say about the band? They are visually mesmerizing and hypnotic.
The photographers were allowed three songs in the pit during Slipknot’s performance which had to be the most manic, frantic thing I have seen in my life. There are two sets of spinning “drums” or kegs on each side of the stage which rise and turn like a teacup ride–while a psychotic clown and another masked creature are either singing or hitting the drum set with mallets. There is a keyboard player with a spiky head and plenty of creatures wearing institutional uniforms and super scary masks. The lead singer Corey Taylor had his usual scary, hand-sewn mask and jumpsuit, crouching on the front of the stage the whole time. I was glad to see him because he had taken a nasty fall in Atlanta just a few days before (not to mention back surgery weeks prior). I’m so glad to see him on stage and hoped he was not in any pain.
My consensus: you haven’t lived until you have seen Slipknot’s live performance.
