Magic Gang

So it was off to the Manchester Academy for Circa Waves, I first covered Circa Waves 3 or 4 years ago when they played a sold out Kashmiri in there hometown of Liverpool and they were awesome, so I was very excited to see the growth of the band since then, and double bonus they were being supported by one of my favourite new bands, MAGIC GANG happy times,

InHeaven

But to start proceeding was InHeaven a four-piece alternative rock band from South London, who had already impressed Strokes front man Julian Casablancas’ enough to release their debut single ‘Regeneration’ on his Cult Records label in the US earlier this year (the track got a release on up-and-coming new label AMF Records in the UK),  and after watching them play and hearing their songs I can see why, they have an 80’s tinged blend of indie rock with a combination of Male female vocals, very reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen in parts and even The Jesus and Mary Chain, and  it was also nice to see a band who just looked like to be having the best time, I look forward to checking them out again.

Up step Magic Gang and I have to declare I really really like this band, a combination of Brit pop and Weezer with bittersweet indie rock/pop, switching vocals, soaring melodies and beautiful harmonies, who could ask for anything else, and they delivered whilst also delivering a lot more confident set since I last saw them a few years back this is a band who has grown in confidence as they have grown in popularity, great song, great band, great live, go and see them.

Circa Waves

And here they were, Circa Waves the band the people were here to see and they were amped, launching straight in to their current single and the crowd went off, a set full of punchy, chorus driven Indie Rock, the songs from the first album whilst bright and breezy and trouble free, blended well with the tracks of there current album which are tad harder, fuller and more introspective but whilst still maintaining melodies and soaring chorus, here was a band on form, a couple of years of touring, playing bigger shows to bigger audiences coupled with hefty radio play had turned this band into something confident and powerful, I don’t want to break down the set song by song as I don’t like that, lets just say this boys rocked the house, the crowd went nuts and everyone left sweaty and sticky but with massive grins on their content faces, a great show from a band that has the potential to do even bigger and greater things, awesome stuff all round.
