Anthrax

The Ritz Raleigh is a special venue for me, this was where I shot my first concert for Rock at Night a little over a year ago… the rest is history.

I’ve been listening to Metal since the mid 80’s, I can’t describe my excitement to be able to shoot my first Big Four Band, flippin’ Anthrax, ladies and gentlemen, but before that, let’s talk about The Devil Wears Prada.
Full house again for some metal in Raleigh, yes, the South loves metal!!! The Devil Wears Prada kicked things out with lots of energy, pretty much full throttle, not an opening act, they just had to play first.
Playing first didn’t change things for The Devil Wears Prada, they delivered a blistering fast pace set that brought the crowd up in flames. Headbands galore right there.
Without further delay, let’s talk about Anthrax… have I mention how excited I Am? The band came on stage with a massive amount of power, lights and sound, the crowd went totally bananas… and so did yours truly.
Anthrax’s Intro song “I Can’t Turn You Loose” is one of my favorite intro’s. Who doesn’t like the Blues Brothers?

The band kicked out with “Among the Living” and I got goose bumps seeing Scott, Joey and Frank running around the stage, instigating the crowd.

“Caught in a Mosh” came next… I just keep feeling so lucky to be able to witness Scott Ian Janming at touch distance from me. I was an Anthrax fan way before I picked up a camera–I was in awe.
The intro of “Madhouse” just made everyone wired up and the song kicked in to a wild crowd.
“Fight’Em Till you Can’t” and “I Am the Law” prepared the crowd to listen to “Breathing Lightning”, a new song from the latest album, For All Kings. This song happens to be my personal favorite from the album
“I had to stop writing, N.F.L.” came next, and since I was out of the photo pit already, I could work on my old school head banging 😃
I didn’t notice until I got to post-processing of the photos but I took almost 50% less pictures of Anthrax than I did for the other bands… I have to admit, I put the camera down and banged my head a lot while I was working the pit. The fact I loved the music so much is the reason and not that I liked the band less than the others—quite the opposite!
I can’t wait see Anthrax again, honestly, it was awesome. Later on I had the chance to say a quick “hello: to Scott Ian and I must say, the man is a real class act. I love when I get to meet semi-gods that are just like real people… I got to the conclusion that “Bologna on Hand” Sandwiches gives one the power to make  speedy, harsh, dirty Trash Metal!
Thank you for coming to Raleigh, and, heck, thanks for keeping it together, writing new music, AND touring!!!!
