Venue: El Club, Detroit–June 8, 2017-Mutoid Man “War Moans” tour
Last year I saw Mutoid Man and they played a few new songs from their upcoming album and I was wondering when the album was going to drop? Well, the new album came out on June 2nd. As of right now this album is definitely my favorite album of 2017. I think I may have driven some of my friends off the wall due to having played the album on repeat for the past week.
Mutoid Man opened up the Detroit show at the El Club with “Melt Your Mind”, a song with Motorhead riff inspiration. The band continued with a few more songs from War Moans such as “Bone Chain”, “Micro Aggression”, a crowd fave “Kiss of Death” (the chorus says it all) and my favorite song “Date With The Devil”.
Mutoid Man played a few faves from their two previous album Bleeder and Helium such as “Bridgeburner” and “1000 Miles Stare”. Stephen Brodsky made sure the audience sang the chorus to “Gnarcissist”.
Detroit was greeted with two cover songs, the first one being The Animals cover of “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”. The second cover song is the one that everyone who saw MM last year remembers, which is Prince’s “Purple Rain”. Last year when I saw them, they only played a minute of the song and went straight into their first song. This time they ended their set playing the full song. I have to say that this cover of Purple Rain was pretty banging.
Take a listen to their new album and go see them this summer as they are going across the country. This band will make you headbang and laugh (oh yeah, they are known to be goofballs on stage).
