Greta Van Fleet

When it comes to New Bands, my editor doesn’t mess with me anymore, she just say’s “have I ever let you down?”… Another reason why I love her, but I digress.

I happen to live at “I-can-listen-to-every-show from my balcony” distance from The Pourhouse, another authentic Raleigh venue dated from last century, with 30 draft beer selection, yup. Anyway, I ran into the MasterMind behind The Pourhouse the other day and he asked me if I had listened to Greta Van Fleet before and when I answered “no”, the man said “Then don’t, I want to see the look on your face, when you see them live for the first time”. Needless to say I spent the last two weeks waiting to see Greta Van Fleet up close and personal at their sold out show on Monday.
Let’s just say, “I’m glad I didn’t make a bet with Adam” when he told me about Greta Van Fleet for the first time. Dang Son! That was a mind-blowing show!

I’m not sure how the band feels when compared to Led Zeppelin, but that is something impossible to do. Greta Van Fleet sounds like LZ. Now, let me say this carefully, this band SOUNDS like Led Zeppelin, they even resemble the Great Masters of Rock’ Roll, but they are playing the very own music. That’s right folks, this could have been the best Led Zeppelin Cover Band out there, but they chose to be their re-incarnation. Are you picking up what I’m putting down? When you listen to these kids your rock-n-roll-infected-brain is desperately screaming at you because it thinks it’s a lost Led Zeppelin album!!!

I happened to be at the side of the stage when the band left the Green Room and waited to get to the stage (Kudos for the Tour Manager. I dig it man!) I made a mental note to Google the band when I got home and check if those kids are of legal drinking age yet. Turns out only two are, the other two are both 18. Are you listening to me? The age of those four kids summed is not even 80yrs old and they are this freaking good. This is insane. Greta Van Fleet is the next big thing folks, write it down. You heard it from me!
The band, formed by Josh Kiszka (vocals), Jake Kiszka (guitars), Sam Kiszka (bass, keyboards) and Danny Wagner on the drums are from the small town of Frankenmuth, Michigan. No, I haven’t heard of it either. I don’t do this often, but checked out this article from Kelly Frazier with a great story about the band:
If you are in the path of Greta Van Fleet’s tour, go see them, trust me.

  1. Frankenmuth, MI is also known as “Little Bavaria” and is a tourist destination as is Bronners Christmas Store which is near Frankenmuth. Its just North of Flint. I grew up about an hour away in Port Huron and have visited many times
