By Rick Slagter, Rock At Night Groningen, The Netherlands
Venue: Asteriks, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands
In the north of The Netherlands, somewhere in the middle of a kind of nowhere near the sea, is a small town called Dokkum. It is the hometown of three young boys who started a band. Three years ago they were not yet old enough to order beer when they did their first concerts in clubs and released their first EP. The name of the band is The Homesick, they play a mix of kvltnoise, dream punk and psycho pop. In 2017 they released their debut LP ‘Youth Hunt’, which received excellent reviews on Dutch and foreign platforms. The band is busy playing at well known festivals, clubs, and radio stations. It seems to be the warming up for an international break through, which could be boosted in 2018. The Homesick has been invited to perform at the world famous American event SXSW18.
Last week RAN caught the band performing in a sold-out event at club Asteriks in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.
The Homesick is: Elias Elgersma (guitars, vocals); Jaap van der Velde (bass, vocals); Erik Woudwijk (drums)
