“Miracle”, the new video from Marty Friedman, can be seen below. The song tells the story of the former MEGADETH guitarist’s personal journey from an everyday kid to virtuoso through a series of candid home videos and photos from the Friedman family.
The clip starts simple enough with Friedman emerging and taking a seat on a stool while a photo frame hangs next to him. But as the music grows, the photo frame (and eventually more frames) play host to home movies of Friedman as a kid. Viewers get a chance to see the guitarist all the way from infancy up to a final shot likely in his teens in his bedroom practicing his guitar.
“Once you’ve grown up in this complicated world, it;s easy to forget the simpler times that were so important in making you who you are now, as well as the people in your family who put up with all of the loud music, smoke and noise coming from your bedroom, and all the other B.S. that you put them through,” says Friedman. “With this video, rather than looking at how much of a goofy kid I was, I hope that it inspires you to think about your own family or whoever was closest to you when you were just starting out in the world.”
The track itself is an uplifting piece of music that gives the guitarist a chance to show off some of the dexterity that has made him one of the greats at his craft. As stated, “Miracle” is featured on Friedman’s thirteenth solo album, “Wall Of Sound”, which was released on August 4 via Prosthetic Records (You can read our own review of the album here). Produced by Friedman, engineered by Paul Fig (GHOST, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS) and mixed by Jens Bogren (KREATOR, OPETH, SEPULTURA), the disc “expands and destroys any conventional notions of instrumental music,” according to a press release. Legendary QUEEN producer Mack came on board to handle the mixing on two tracks, “Streetlight” and “For A Friend”, which Friedman proclaimed was “an honor for me, for sure.”
Marty’s new CD was recorded in part at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in California with engineer Paul Fig (ALICE IN CHAINS, RUSH, DEFTONES) and was previously described by Friedman as “a way more intense version” of its predecessor: “deeper, sadder, happier and more aggressive.”
Like “Inferno”, Friedman’s new album features several guests, including prog-thrashers MUTOID MAN, Jørgen Munkeby of the Norwegian avant-garde jazz-metal outfit SHINING and Jinxx of Los Angeles theatrical rockers BLACK VEIL BRIDES.
