Seaway

Back in October I saw Canadian pop punk band Seaway at The Crowbar, Tampa, for the first time. They were supporting Like Pacific and I was totally hooked! I purchased their latest CD “Vacation” and it definitely gets a lot of rotation in my CD player (yes, I’m “old school” and haven’t gravitated to the Bluetooth player). The band promised to be back to Tampa in early 2018—and they kept their word.

On January 27th, Seaway returned to Tampa Bay, hot off of the UK tour, during what was a wild night in Ybor City, since the Gasparilla Festival was in full motion.  Walking on the streets of Tampa on a Saturday night, there were plenty of pirate costumes, Jack Sparrow dreads, and tricorn hats passing by on my way to The Orpheum.  When I walked inside the venue was totally packed with wall-to-wall people.  UK band Creeper and Speak Low had already performed and I was just in time to see Seaway.

After a short sound check, the band was on fire—and the crowd totally responded. There was plenty of crowd-surfing and head bopping as the Ryan Locke jumped up and down, motioning for the crowd to do the same. With so many people packed in the room (where’s the fire marshal?) it was difficult for the crowd to even move.

The boys from Ontario were dressed in their tropical shirts and in “vacation mode” as they played songs like “Apartment” and “London”.  They played another older favorite “Airhead” and the crowd sang along to the lyrics…. Sometimes I can be a fuckin’ airhead…”OK…I think this is honesty everyone can relate to….

The band ended with my favorite “Lula on the Beach” which had me singing and visualizing the adorable video in my head which features all the little dogs on the beach.  Lula isn’t a girl, folks!

Anyway, dynamite show, guys!  I am so happy you made it back to the sub-tropics to play because Tampa loves you!
