Chatting with Robert Wax of Crashing Cairo

By Andrea Ramirez-Maciolek, Rock At Night Philadelphia

INTERVIEW: Robert Wax of Crashing Cairo

When it comes to Crashing Cairo and their new album, At Speeds That Destroy, lead singer Robert Wax described the album best, cinematic soundscape. The four-piece band from Detroit, Michigan, produce some of the best bone-chilling, and anthemic music I have heard and it’s no surprise their latest album has received national attention across radio stations in the United States, Canada, and across the pond. Each song sounds like a soundtrack to a specific point in life. The songs have an intensity about them building up to a satisfying and powerful climax.

At Speeds That Destroy is a collaboration of great minds coming together for a very successful project both musically and on the technical spectrum. The band consists of members Robert Wax (vocals/keyboards), Joel Cooper (guitars), David West (drums/electronics), and Chris Rosin (bass).  Each member has a key role delivering unique qualities that make each song stand out as empowering anthems. At Speeds That Destroy saw Crashing Cairo work with producers Peter Katis (The National, Interpol) and Tim Palmer (David Bowie, Pearl Jam, U2) further proving that the band is a force to be reckoned with and to expect to hear a lot more from these guys in the future.  It is without a doubt that Crashing Cairo is a talented band with songs that will make you feel really good. I am glad to be finishing off the year with Crashing Cairo on my playlist as I’m sure I will continue to play them non stop for the next few weeks and well into the new year as I catch up on their discography.

A few days ago, I had the chance to speak with lead vocalist Wax where he gave Rock at Night some details of what’s to come in 2019 for Crashing Cairo, and I can’t wait because it sounds like it’s going to be a great year for them. We also spoke about some of the songs on the album and how the band managed to work with such greats as Peter Katis, and Tim Palmer. We spoke about the band’s favorite gear, favorite concert moment, and who in the band may be listening to Britney Spears. It was a fun interview so make sure to listen to the podcast below.
