Los Angeles, CA – ABC-TV’S new sitcom, Schooled, a spinoff of the highly successful 80s sitcom, The Goldbergs, revealed yesterday its opening theme song is a newly penned song written and recorded specifically for Schooled by Jaret & Kelly, entitled, “Those Were The Days.” Jaret & Kelly is a project featuring The Dollyrots’ Kelly Ogden and Bowling For Soup’s Jaret Reddick.
Schooled, premieres on the ABC Television Network today, January 9 at 8:30pm EST/PST.
Set in 1990-something, Schooled follows the hilarious faculty of William Penn Academy where the show’s creator and executive producer Adam F. Goldberg attended. Despite their eccentricities and crazy personal lives, these teachers are heroes to their students. Created by Adam F. Goldberg and Marc Firek, the series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. Adam F. Goldberg, Doug Robinson and Marc Firek are executive producers.
“The greatest part of creating a TV show is using it as an opportunity to work with your favorite musicians,” said Goldberg. “I’ve been a die-hard fan of Bowling For Soup since the late 90s and became obsessed with The Dollyrots when the two bands released a combo album in 2011,” stated Goldberg. “It’s obvious why Jaret and Kelly frequently team up together these days — they wrote a brilliant tongue-in-cheek punk pop song that sets the perfect tone for my show set in the 90s.”
Bowling for Soup and The Dollyrots have been friends and tour-mates for over a decade, so it only makes sense that after years of hearing and singing each other’s songs a special musical collaboration would emerge. Jaret & Kelly’s duets album Sittin’ In A Tree will be available later this Spring. It is produced by Linus of Hollywood, you can pre-order the album and instantly receive three new tracks via digital download now by pre-ordering here.
A full-length version of “Those Were The Days” is also in the works. The track was recorded and produced by The Dollyrots’ Luis Cabezas at Harmonic Mermaid in Tampa, FL and Jaret Reddick at The Daycare in Prosper, TX, with mixing by Linus of Hollywood.
The Dollyrots 2017 album Whiplash Splash debuted on both Billboard’s Heatseekers chart at #13 and Billboard’s Independent Albums chart at #31. The band’s 2016 live album/DVD Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles debuted at #15 on Billboard’s Heatseekers album chart and their 2014 album Barefoot and Pregnant garnered their first chart appearance, peaking at #7 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers. The also recently launched their 5th crowdfunded project via a PledgeMusic campaign with plenty of pledger-only exclusives and unique items. Over the last decade Jaret has made a name for himself outside of Bowling For Soup with intimate acoustic performances where he performs BFS hits, solo originals and more. Mostly known for his work in BFS, he is also notable as the lead singer of the fictional band “Love Handel” on the hit Disney show “Phineas and Ferb” and the voice of Chuck E. Cheese. He also helms the successful podcasts “Jaret Goes To the Movies,” “The Rockstar Dad Show” and “BFS Fan Page Rampage” and his music has been used in various other film/tv and video game projects.
