Shinedown brought their “Attention Attention World Tour” to a jam packed Mohegan Sun Arena Saturday night complete with their hallmark pyrotechnics and wickedly sophisticated laser light show.
Brent Smith (lead vocals), Zach Myers (guitar), Eric Bass (bass), and Barry Kerch (drums) brought their A game to Mohegan Sun in support of their latest album Attention Attention (album review here).
The buzz in the crowd is electric as Shinedown busts full force right out of the gate with the smash “Devil”, followed by “Diamond Eyes (boom-lay, boom lay, boom)“ and “Enemies”. Fans of Shinedown know they are all about inclusivity. As become tradition, the gracious Brent Smith stopped the show to ask everyone to meet and shake the hand of the people around them so “There are no Strangers here”, while he personally reaches out to everyone he could possibly reach to shake their hand. Always evolving to improve the experience, Brent mentioned that it was Zach Myers’ idea to include a run way to a second stage, bringing the action closer to the fans in the back of the house. Persisting with cuts from the Attention Attention album, Shinedown continued with, “Monsters”, Black Soul, and fan favorite “Get Up” .
After making their way to the second stage, the band played a mix of hits from previous albums. “Amaryllis”, and “Misfits”, had everyone in the sold out arena on their feet. Shinedown then lit up the audience with “Second Chance”, then a rare sampling of “45” and their iconic Lynyrd Skynyrd cover of “Simple Man”.
Returning to the main stage, Shinedown finished the night off with “Cut the Cord”, “Sound Of Madness”, and “Brilliant”.
Hard hitting and edgy to emotive and poignant, Shinedown is an impressive force skillfully guided by a temperate hand. Brent Smith’s vocal quality is superb and the musicianship of the band never gets lost in noise. Shinedown is on top of their game and the “Attention Attention World Tour” represents the album magnificently.
