With the concerts by Krokus and Madrugada, tonight the last songs of this year’s Baloise Session ring out. Over the past three weeks, German pop superstar Herbert Grönemeyer, powerfully-voiced blues and soul singer Rag’n’Bone Man, Swiss live band Hecht, pop angel Dido and the British cult band Snow Patrol are only a few of the acts that conjured up moments of musical magic. The 34th edition of the Basel music festival attracted 15’500 visitors, corresponding to another 100% sell-out.
Over ten concert evenings the famous intimate club-like setting was transformed into a musical lounge for stars of the likes of Brad Paisley, Michael Patrick Kelly, Brittany Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, Wincent Weiss and Tom Walker. Newcomers Jazz Morley, Alice Merton and Ward Thomas also charmed the public.
The festival management looks back with satisfaction on the most recent festival edition: «What a wonderful year! Once more the Baloise Session 2019 has closed with fond concert memories, satisfied visitors and enthusiastic bands. That’s exactly what the entire team works tirelessly towards all year long. We are delighted that everything went perfectly», says Beatrice Stirnimann, CEO of the Baloise Session.
As in previous years, the Baloise Session groove also spread to a few Basel schools. This year the music workshops, which have been organised by the festival since 2012, were devoted to the world of percussion instruments with the aid of Beat Schürpf of Pro Percussion AG, the largest specialist in percussion instruments in North Western Switzerland.

The BALOISE SESSION 2019 – Where the Magic Happens
Every autumn for the past 34 years, leading national and international stars have been appearing at the Baloise Session. 15’500 music fans attend the concert evenings in the Event Hall of the Basel Fair. The intimate club-like setting, special seating around candlelit tables, and the audience’s proximity to the stars turn a concert visit into a musical experience.
From Belgian and Italian parents, I grew up with music, dance and big fun! I love singing since I'm a little girl, I still am, haha. When I was 14, I saw my first concert: T-Rex. Later it was FrankZappa, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Fela, Canned Heat, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Earth, Wind and Fire ....
I dreamed to have a chat with each of them 😀 Before interviewing bands, I used to sing (and still do) and met lots of great musicians. I had the chance to be the support band to Joe Cocker in 2007. I love to communicate and meet people (Italian blood).
Working for magazine, a few years ago, l met José Oliveira! We were working at the same festival in Colmar. 2 people from the South with the same passion just recognized each other...and we stayed in contact since then. Here I am! Enjoying concerts, covering interviews and articles with José for Rock at Night!!
