New Release: Mike Skill-My Bad Pretty–June 26, 2020
Detroit rocker Mike Skill, founding member and principal songwriter of The Romantics, is definitely on a writing roll. Earlier in April he released, “Not My Business.” Now, he’s back with a new single that I immediately fell in love with. I am hoping a full EP is on the agenda.
Rock At Night’s first listen: Kind of a jaunty, sleazy beat with guitar bends and retro feel. The song then speeds up, almost sounding rockabilly, before settling back into a slick guitar solo. Very cool 60s garage rock. Think The Sonics.
Skill said, “It was the guitar line/intro that I wrote first. I wanted a saucy, blues, garage attack. I imagined a sleazy fifties racy paperback story with a film noir mood. It’s a “Pretty Woman” story but with a disastrous middle and ending. What came out, what you hear and what you get is a “Raucous Rocker”.
Skill is on guitars, bass and vocals, Kevin Rankin (A Flock of Seagulls, Animotion) is on drums and Rick Bain is on slide guitar.
“My Bad Pretty” was remixed and mastered by Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Soundgarden, Tantric) at legendary Pearl Sound Studios (Asking Alexandria, Eminem, Filter) and produced by Mike Skill and Chuck Alkazian.
