Rock at Night recently caught up with Eric Wayne and Brian Mckee, two members of the talented and prolific southern rock group, The Eric Wayne Band out of Southern Virginia. Starting off as an Acoustic Duo, this group formed into a quartet in 2019 and have already released an EP, opened up for Colt Ford and Chris Jansen, as well as been a presence at major music festivals such as the annual Blue Ridge Music Festival.
During these challenging times with lockdowns, this group has taken the opportunity to stay relevant with their fan base as well as make new ones through their strong presence on social media platforms. They’ve posted acoustic versions of yet to be released songs and are just aching for when recording studios open up so that they can record the ten new songs they’ve written in 2020.
Influencing their music are the classics rooted in Southern Rock, Rock-n-Roll and Country. Percussionist, Brian McKee takes his cues from Afro Cuban legends the likes of the late Tony Allen, Jaco Pastorius and Dennis Chambers. The band calls him the ‘Walking Circus Act’ and you can catch him playing the Cajón on their cover of Prince’s ‘Cream’.
No stranger to improvisation, the acoustic version of their songs as well as covers that they Live Stream has kept their audience engaged. Listen to what inspired the yet to be released “Lookin” and the fun backstory behind it.
