The Dead Freights: reeks of fresh garage rock with new singles

The Dead Freights

Review of The Dead Freights’ videos ‘Stray Dogs’ and Fever and Thunder” and upcoming single “Sufferin Safari” (March 19, 2021)

FFO: The Strokes, Cage the Elephant

Rock At Night Says: There’s only three words I can use to describe the three (3) singles by The Dead Freights–I’m in love.  Yes, this Southampton quartet hits every checkbox with its fresh, garage rock and indie style.

“Stray Dogs” asks “See if I care or give a fuck, if my head’s screwed up” as the lead singer squints and reeks with attitude. The song has a steady rock beat and is reminiscent of The Strokes or even Cage the Elephant.

“Fever and Thunder” has a similar vibe with its crunchy guitar riff before slowing its tempo toward the end, taking on a grungy undertone (not to mention, the dude has a noose around his neck while singing).

And finally, “Sufferin’ Safari” is a tongue-in-cheek play on The Beach Boy’s “Surfin’ Safari”.  Here, The Dead Freights’s song almost has an 80s New Wave vibe. The vocal harmonies and interesting guitar riff throughout are engaging.  Yet, another winner.

Let The Dead Freights be on your “must watch” list!
