Review: WILDSTREET’s single “Mother” – Release date May 17, 2021 via Golden Robot Records.
On Monday, May 17th, glam metal band WILDSTREET released their seventh single “Mother” from their upcoming album Wildstreet III, which is set to be released on June 25th. Review of the band’s Facebook page noted the song would be a bit different from their past singles. According to Golden Robot Records, the song is described as a “7-minute psychological thriller” that explores a person’s madness, which she “insists is her mother’s doing.” Additionally, the label notes the song appeals to fans of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, & Avenged Sevenfold.
Rock At Night Says: The lyric video shows darkness, ominous clouds, and flashes of lightning as a faint creepy, minor guitar riff and slow, steady drum beat provoke tension. The vocals speak of “cold hearted weapons” and “not getting out alive”, setting up a foreboding tone. The tempo increases, as the song takes on grungey undertones before blaring into the chorus which declares “My mother made me.” This may be interpreted on several levels. For example, “my mother created me–the dark person I am” or “my mother put me up to it”, as if shrugging off all responsibility of an evil act.
“Mother” is not the usual Wildstreet “let’s party and have a good time” song but is heavier and slushy, like mid-90s Alice In Chains. An intricate guitar solo with great tone finishes this dark, brooding, delicious song. The more I listen to “Mother”, the more I like it.
