Album Review: “The Last Perfect Performance”
Release Date: June 18, 2021
Paul Bibbens is really a Dallas transplant and originally hails from New Orleans. He became part of the diaspora after the destruction of his home city by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and he has been on the music scene for some time. In the tradition of the great Texas rock and blues guitarists, Paul Bibbens is a guitarist extraordinaire! Something must be in the water in Texas and Louisiana as it has always been the land of incredible rock and blues guitarists.
But that is not all! On Paul’s bio he also says that he wears all hats as a “song writer, guitarist, bassist, vocalist, producer, recording engineer, mixing & mastering engineer and drum programmer. I can’t play a lick of drums…but I can do some damage with a drum machine.” His influences include the guitar masters! “A real benefit that I especially got from learning Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn records was that I learned how to project power in my guitar playing; how to really attack my guitar, and make my guitar riffs and solos really mean something!”
Two weeks ago, Paul released a huge body of work, a 27 track album on Bandcamp. With influences and one cover from Hendrix (“Voodoo Chile”) and “The Star Spangled Banner” a la Jimi’s style, but written by Francis Scott Key, the rest of the album is comprised of original songs well worth hearing.
Rock at Night says: “This album is a classic for guitarist lovers and a huge giveaway on the Bandcamp platform. Most of the songs are largely instrumental with lyrics interspersed throughout. Reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robin Trower, this album has some of the best guitar work we here at Rock at Night have heard in years!” The album is linked at the BANDCAMP hyperlink below.
Paul has been doing his own promotional work for this album and has two reviews now and gotten two of his songs on independent radio! Connect with Paul on his socials linked below and stay tuned for more from this independent artist.
