New Releases: Single “I Love” and EP “Crazy Little Village” with LAW Records
August 13, 2021
Billboard-charting reggae artist, Joe Sambo covered Joyner Lucas‘s song “I Love” with his reggae style and it is now a new single available now on LAW Records. In recent years he is known for laying down the socially conscious music with hip-hop overtones and a positive vibe.
Joe got the idea to cover the song in his own style after he was approached by the video director, Ben Proulx to be an extra in Joyner Lucas’s video production of the original song.
“I actually play a homeless hobo guy in the background of the music video,” says Joe. “Joyner is really amazing and is the epitome of hip hop right now. I love the song and it was just stuck in my head for months after. So with his songs blowing up, and him being from my neck of the woods and having that connection, I was like, I gotta do a version of that. I’m not gangster by any means. But I tried my best!”
The cut features Joe’s longtime friend Tyler Ayres on drums and Joe does the vocals and all the other instruments. The song was recorded at New Hampshire’s Revelry Studios (co-owned by Ayers) and engineered and mastered by both performers.
Joe now lives in Key West but comes from the small town of Salem, New Hampshire. He started playing music while a child and started out playing metal hardcore. He quickly left that behind and started to follow his heart and inspiration while creating music. Since 2019, his music is heading upward on the charts. His first LP “The Wrong Impression” was self-released and debuted #1 on the Reggae Billboard Chart. Soon afterwards he won Male Artist of the Year at The New England Music Awards.
He established a working relationship with LAW Records while working on a special project. “Everything immediately just kind of vibed really well with LAW,” says Joe. “LAW is very hands-on and organic in how real and upfront they are, how they communicate. They let you have the freedom to be as creative as you want, and they’re there to help artists they believe can do some cool shit. We work really well together and this single is a testament to that synergy and a taste of what’s to come.”
“I Love” is Joe Sambo’s third single to be released in advance of his upcoming EP “Crazy Little Village.” The single drop is the last release of a total of three–his two previous singles were released earlier this spring (the fun dance-anthem “Beef” and the joyful “Create Something”). The EP will be a preview of his upcoming sophomore LP that will release in 2022.
Rock at Night says: “I just love this single and now listening to more Joe Sambo. Beautifully engineered, uplifting lyrics–what happy music! Reggae always puts one’s heart in the right place. This is joyful, peaceful and makes one want to dance. Listen to Joe and keep the vibe high!”
“I Love” is available on all major platforms now and the EP, “Crazy Little Village” will be out August 13, 2021.
