Single Review: Julia Pratt’s single “Tried and True” – Release date February 4, 2022
Young singer songwriter prodigies are not such a rarity these days, and if they are any good, they are bound to reach a wider audience and make a serious impression.
Based on her latest single “Tried and True,” with Philadelphia’s Julia Pratt at her still tender age of 21, we just might have another such prodigy reaching our ears.
Julia started out by playing saxophone and cello, then deciding to move on to singing jazz standards akin to her idols Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. A tall order, if you don’t have the vocal skills to be able to do so. But with her 2021 EP “Fallout” Pratt showed that she actually might be up to the challenge.
What she also proved there, which she now confirms with “Tender and True” is that she also has the right feel for a great pop song that doesn’t necessarily stick to the ‘standard’ pop formats, making her a songwriter to watch out for too.
Quite a dark, melancholic ballad, “Tried and True” proves that Julia Pratt is one of those talents that just might make a big impression despite all odds. As Julia puts it, ” Tried and True was my attempt to articulate the internal monologue running through someone’s mind during their last moments.”
Still, Pratt’s songwriting and vocals dispel all the darkness of the lyrics and make “Tried and True” an impressive listen.
