Review: Kenny Dubman ‘s album Conflicted-Release date April 29, 2022
Music pundits keep on predicting that hard rock as such will simply wither away, and they have been doing that not for years, but for decades. Well, that doesn’t seem to be happening. While the original hard rock from the times of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, to name just two of the progenitors, has brought out quite a number of other genres and styles is not only still around, but with new names constantly cropping up it seems to be gaining new steam.
On the evidence of ‘Conflicted,’ his latest album, one hard rock name to have in mind these days is Kenny Dubman. While Dubman is not exactly a newcomer, he had a break from music from nineties up to 2013, when he gained his spark back, inspired by Blackberry Smoke’s album The Whippoorwill.
So, then, it is no wonder that among the cast on Conflicted we can notice the name of Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr, along with Zakk Wilde (Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society) and Scotti Hill (Skid Row).
Musically, those listeners following hard rock more closely will realize where Dubman is going with his music, as well as that there will be no musical slip up here, with excellent guitar playing all over the place.
Yet, there is an additional aspect to the album, as Dubman explains: ” Conflicted is really an album of observations of human nature and behavior…every single track is about things that people do, and the impact these things have on both themselves and others in their sphere. Human emotion drives human behavior, which ultimately shapes our worlds, for better or worse. Every single person is conflicted, in one way or another, at some point in their lives.”
Hard rock fans can certainly rejoice with this one.
Conflicted is due for release on April 29.
