Review: The 69 Eyes’ video/single “Drive”
Rock at Night Says: “Drive” brings the slick and sensual to gothic rock. The guitars cut right through the mix and sound like the modern equivalent of glam metal, yet this tone is contrasted by Jyrki 69’s deep, dark baritone. Such juxtaposition can also be seen in the song’s music video which focuses on something of a seedy night out (with vampires chasing after our protagonists) yet the cinematography is fluid and the footage is crisp. It’s a risky move, but one that pays off given the memorability of both the song and video. Check it below!
The 69 Eyes are set to release their 13th studio album sometime in 2023. Be on the lookout for some more goth ‘n’ roll in the coming months.
