MY REVIEW
Roll right into summer with THE SURFRAJETTES NEW ALBUM ROLLER FINK…
The 14-track album consists of instrumental surf-rock sounds that remind me of sweet summertime and sippin’ on slush puppies with friends. It also includes a fantastic cover of one of the most iconic pop songs from the late 70s, “Heart of Glass” by Blondie. They wanted to pick a song that would be shocking or unexpected to the audience as a surf rock cover, so they went with that… and I am so glad they did!
The title track “Roller Fink” is more upbeat compared to the rest of the album and has a mini drum solo performed by Maloney. This song almost fits into the rockabilly genre, but still has a groovy surf feel that makes this band so original.
Last but not least, let us not forget their unforgettable fashion sense inspired by popular 60s trends (the beehive hair style, groovy outfits, and go-go boots). Although I appreciate music and fashion from all decades, the 1960s is by far my favorite era.
