Review: Bomb Cats’ album Third Street Melody-June 3, 2022
Can you successfully marry the punk/power pop of The Ramones and Green Day with more hard/heavy rock tendencies of Thin Lizzy and Queens of The Stone Age?
Indianapolis quartet Bomb Cats (Chris Farell, guitar/vocals, Russ Webster, bass/vocals, James Williams, lead guitar and Colin Nulty, drums) try to answer that question with their latest, 5-track EP ‘Third Street Melody.’
Farell, and the rest of the band started out in 2014, concentrating mainly on touring the Midwest from Inianapolis to Chicago, Nashville, Milwaukee.
During that time they seem to have perfected their punk/hard rock blend that serves as the main fuel for their melody part of the equation, and they seem to have done that to some good effect, as all of the five tracks here, from the opening title track to the closing ‘Flesh Fiend’ exemplify how this blend should really work – good, solid melodies with some impeccable rhythms and angry, crunching guitars combined with that oh so recognizable Iggy Pop vocal sneer from both Farrell and Webster,
Works a charm throughout, and Bomb Cats should certainly become more than Midwestern stalwarts.
