Review: VIKINGS – Tanlines/Swimming At Night Single Review-Release date July 15, 2022
We all have a feeling that certain music style or genre is not for us, yet, at some point, we catch ourselves enjoying, tapping out feet, snapping our fingers at a song or a set of songs, that we are ‘not supposed’ to like.
So don’t get surprised if this happens to you with this upbeat duo of songs (and remixes) by VIKINGS, a Winnipeg-based trio, who openly favor doing just ‘simple’ electronic pop.
Winnipeg just might not be one of the renowned music centers, but vocalist Josh Youngston and brothers Dave and James McNabb (both on synths) with the help of drummer Luke Janzen create a sound that can appeal to pop lovers anywhere on the globe. It is a sound more associated with what are considered world’s music centers like London, Los Angeles or NYC.
With a new album upcoming soon, VIKINGS seem to say, Hot Chip et al beware.
