Live Review: Corrosion of Conformity – Lincoln Theatre, Raleigh, NC – November 17, 2022

It was good to see Corrosion of Conformity (CoC) playing in their backyard again. This time at the Lincoln Theatre–and on my birthday! Growing up outside the US I learned mostly about mainstream metal music. The first time I heard about CoC was in 1997 when I heard a Bootleg Metallica CD with a performance on the defunct KSJO radio (San Jose, CA). Pepper Keenan was playing the guitar on “Creeping Death”.  After that, the very first band I ever photographed was Down at the iconic Orange Peel in Asheville back in 2014. In that occasion Keenan was extremely nice to me, took me on stage, and handed me to Phil Anselmo, who asked the crowd for a cheer… but that’s another story…

Alright, back to 2022. I was stoked to find out COC was playing on my birthday in Raleigh (well, they didn’t know that) but all my friends were impressed to find out. Needless to say no one was left disappointed.  CoC delivered a powerful, sludge fest performance to an absolutely jam packed Lincoln Theatre. With all the enthusiasm from the band–and the crowd–you could tell they were playing for home town fans.
