Patty & The Oh’s – Useless Love-Release date September 30, 2022
A perfectly crafted pop song is not only a thing of beauty, but also a showcase of excellent craftmanship and something really good artists can be coming up with.
Great pop rock draws a line from the likes of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, through The Beatles and The Kinks, to more recent names like Belle & Sebastian. Being able to come up with such a pop gem is quite a hard task, particularly for artists that are just starting to make a name for themselves.
Now let us count into that an American group, Patty & The Oh’s and their most recent pop gem ‘Useless Love.’
Patty & The Oh’s is made up of Patrick Weatherly, songwriter and singer from North Alabama, and Seattle musicians Dune Butler, William Mapp, and Charles Wicklander. “Useless Love” is one of three songs that have been released publicly (see also New Flavor of Gum and Societal Collapse Doo Wop) by the band. These three songs are all a part of a forthcoming full-length album, titled “Out of Everything”.
What is so good about ‘Useless Love’ is that it traces the development of pop rock from the fifties to more current times, keeping all the right signatures of a great, concise melody, excellent vocals and understated instrumentation in combination with dry, itty, lyrics that complement the song in full.
If ‘Useless Love” is any sign, we are in for a treat of an album.
