Review:-Stan Snow – Into the Great Beyond-Release date: May 26, 2023
Many would say that classic rock and roots music are more or less the same thing. Without going into a big debate, it can surely be said that very often, the two overlap. After all, rock musician always used the pick and choose method from various genres, particularly all forms of roots music to create their own.
So, it is no wonder that quite a few rock artists rely on roots music to come up with some (often excellent) stuff. That is exactly what you can hear on ‘Into the Great Beyond,’ the new solo album by Seattle’s Stan Snow, who also is a member of The Sundogs.
Snow has obviously built a name for himself as the album is full of very accomplished collaborators such as Abe Laboriel Jr. (Paul McCartney), Valerie Pinkston (Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston), Lyle Workman (Sting, Beck), and Ben Smith (Heart) among others.
And while you can expect some excellent backing from such an experienced crew, the main show actually really is on Snow, who besides being an excellent songwriter is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer, engineer and filmmaker.
Snow’s songwriting is steeped in all the best elements of roots rock that is coupled here with some intricate arrangements very often lead by Snow’s assured vocals and some nifty guitar work.
If you crave for some excellent roots rock these days, you don’t have to look much further than this album.
