New album ‘The Sun Also Rises’ out 5th May 2023
Rising indie-rock outfit The Utopiates return with a rousing feel-good indie jam ‘The Sun Also Rises’, lifted from the upcoming album due this May through V2 Records.
Following on from their recent singles, the 90s rave tinged ‘Ups and Downs’, ‘Making History’ and ‘Illuminise’, ‘The Sun Also Rises’ continue the band’s musical evolution and they hit the road for a series of shows and festivals across the UK this spring. They say: “It’s a beautiful thing that ‘The Sun Also Rises’ has become the track it is today. It epitomises the unity in the band and points to a big future in so many ways. It’s the first tune we’ve written from the ground up as a full band operating as the well-oiled machine we are today. Joe and Luke (our rhythm section) were jamming this really beautiful groove around that bass riff and Josh quickly latched onto it and built these kaleidoscopic guitar hooks all over it and we were off. We loved it immediately. The idea for the title (and the album title as well) came from Dan’s lockdown obsession about the roaring 20’s repeating itself in the 21st century. A pandemic subsiding and bringing about the dawn of a golden age of hedonism and art. It’s stolen from Hemingway’s first novel and we think it typifies what The Utopiates has always been about; hope. ‘When one moon fades our light tuns to shade but the sun also rises’.”
Rock At Night Says: Jangly guitars, groovin’ beat, drive this psychedelic-tinged alt rock song that will have you head boppin’ in time.
2022 was the year The Utopiates signed to V2 and were dubbed the band to watch by cult indie promoter This Feeling. A sold-out summer tour followed, and they finished the year completing work on their debut album ‘The Sun Also Rises’ (at The Nave in Leeds). Out on the 5th May 2023 the 12 track release will continue to push the boundaries of their unique brand of groove-laden powerhouse indie.
The Utopiates were formed under the dark clouds of the pandemic and only launched in January ’21 but already the accolades are stacking up (BBC Radio 6 Music DJ, Steve Lamacq/Radio X’s John Kennedy). They’re extremely confident that 2023 is the year they claim much wider attention and stake a serious claim as one of rock ‘n’ roll’s brightest new talents.
