Review: Second Hand Mojo’s single ‘Kiss My Baby Goodnight’ – Release date July 14, 2023

Second Hand Mojo is a quintet from Michigan that takes song stylings from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s while adding a touch of southern flair, turning their music into very listenable and, interestingly enough, party-vibe songs.

One of their new songs, called “Kiss My Baby Goodnight,” is a hard-rocking song with Boston-style opening (and closing) organ sounds that will remind you of Boston’s “Foreplay/Longtime.”

Second Hand Mojo is Vern Springer (guitar, vocals), Chuck Riepenhoff (lead vocals), Scott Brokaw (percussion, vocals), MarQ Andrew Speck “Q” (keys, vocals), and James Hampton (bass, vocals).

The chemistry of this band is excellent, as they are tight and complement each other very well. Great vocals, awesome guitar and keyboard work, and an excellent rhythm section will have your head bopping and your feet moving. I would have liked to hear Springer’s guitar solo go a bit longer, as he launches into a Billy Gibbons ( ZZ Top) sounding riff but then cuts it short. But I am sure that’s exactly how the band wanted it.

“Kiss My Baby Goodnight” is a wonderfully performed and produced song from both Second Hand Mojo and producer Ryan “Toby” Hyland of Plymouth Rock Studios, Plymouth, Michigan.

You can (and should) catch Second Hand Mojo performing live in the coming months.
