Review: The 3 Clubmen – The 3 Clubmen EP -Release date: June 30, 2023
Just listening to The 3 Clubmen debut EP, without really knowing who is involved, immediately pricks the listeners’ ears to the sound that is uncannily close to prime XTC. And when you check out the list of the musicians, everything becomes clear.
After quite a while, we get some music that involves XTC main man Andy Partridge, creating music here with songwriter/guitarist Jen Rowe and musician/producer Stuart Rowe, who has been recording with Partridge since 2006 and ‘Moontrance.’
Actually, the trio have a much longer history of collaboration, some ten years or so, and The 3 Clubmen is a sort of a culmination of their work so far.
And as those familiar with the work of Partridge and Rowe’s might expect, the four songs included here, are perfectly polished pop/rock songs that work in every way expect, with some intricate turns, both left and right leaving the listeners yearning for more, with repeated listens of the EP being the only option at the moment, hopefully not the last one.
