Review: Viji – So Vanilla – Release date October 27, 2023
Viji is one Vanilla Jenner from London, England via Vienna, Austria, and few other places, who was not afraid at all to feature her real name in the title of her debut album ‘So Vanilla.’ She was born in Vienna Austria, and then at the age of 16 travelled to the US and then to Brazil to stay with family, where she started devoting her time to music. n.After Brazil, she moved to the UK to study music production in Brighton. Now she’s residing in London, where the album was recorded and produced.
Listening to So Vanilla, you can only conclude that she had absolutely no reason to be afraid, as her musical concoction of lo-fi bedroom pop and some crunchy Sonic Youth-style guitars works so well.
And Jenner doesn’t even bother to give her songs long-winding titles, letting her knack for a good melody, sweet vocals and loud guitars speak for themselves with some help along the way from Fontaines DC producer Dan Carey.
