Review: UK band The Heavy North – Delta Shakedown -Release date October 20, 2023
There’s always something in the band’s name, and in case of Liverpool’s The Heavy North, it might be a tricky contradiction.
You see, this sextet possibly refer, that they come from England’s north west, but their music has more to do with the U.S. South that the jangly pop rock that is usually associated with Liverpool.
That is so evident on their latest, second album ‘Delta Shakedown’ where they come up with some explosive, tight, bluesy, southern rock. They seem to connect fully to that sound developed by The Allman Brothers Band or Lynyrd Skynyrd for example, that The Beatles or The LA’s.
So how do The Heavy North measure, with such stalwarts of southern rock? Quite well, thank you as these 10 tracks rock and tumble, without the band skipping a single step with som skillful and tight playing and excellent vocals.
Essentially, The Heavy North take that trip south with such an ease, as if this album was recorded somewhere on the Mississippi delta and not back in Liverpool.
