Interview: Andy Summers of the Police-November 15, 2023
Rock At Night was excited to chat with composer, author, photographer, and guitarist with the Police–Andy Summers. The Police was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. Summers twice won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, first in 1979 for “Reggatta de Blanc” (written with Sting and Stewart Copeland) and in 1980 for “Behind My Camel.”
His photographs have been shown in galleries around the world and his books include Throb (1983) and a memoir One Train Later (2006). Check out his 2021 documentary Can’t Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police on Amazon Prime.
Summers has been touring North America doing his one-man-show called The Cracked Lens + A Missing String. In December, he will be touring Florida. The show will include stories, his photography, and music.
In the interview, Andy Summers discusses The Cracked Lens + A Missing String tour; living and studying in California; photography, including his opinion of AI; punk and New Wave; and a couple of the Police songs, including “Mother.”
