Review: Various Artists – Hearts & Minds & Crooked Beats-Release date: February 7, 2024
It turns out February 7 is International Clash Day. So, then, isn’t that a perfect occasion to release an album of various artists covering the music of Clash? Of course, and arts nonprofit and production company Shared Medium did exactly that, but turning it into a benefit one for International Rescue Committee (IRC).
The compilation includes ten artists – The Dandy Warhols, TEKE::TEKE, Mirah, The Rust and The Fury, Labasheeda, Smokey Brights, Seán Barna The Gotobeds, Jlia Massey and Big League. They all present their take on Clash music and their human rights message and do it with and obvious love for The Clash and their music.
A bit of history here – International Clash Day, established in 2013 by KEXP DJ John Richards, marks a global annual celebration of The Clash’s message and legacy.
Proceeds from the album sales will go to the International Rescue Committee’s global fund, supporting their vital work in responding to humanitarian crises and helping impacted individuals rebuild their lives.
International Clash Day was established on February 7th, 2013, when KEXP DJ John Richards decided he’d play The Clash through his entire show because he could.
