Review: Sparky Bosque – Corkscrew Soul -Release date: January 26, 2024
Was there ever a crossing line between power pop and singer songwriter genre?
Of course, there is a positive answer to that question, and you always had some great artists on either side of the imaginary border line (which they always crossed), like Alex Chilton and his Big Star or Elliott Smith.
Well, how about some sort of a combination of the two? Not so unusual? It can always sound good if done right, and one U.K. -based artist, Mark Peter Woods, who works under the moniker of Sparky Bosque has been doing it for a while, this time around on his latest album ‘Corkscrew Soul.’
Woods started out back in 2015 when he released his debut EP. Then cam a series of three albums which Woods dubbed ‘the amaretto trilogy,’ of which ‘Corkscrew Soul’ is a third installment.
There is quite a mute line between sadness and happiness in Woods’ music here, as was in the music of the two (above) artists his music is compared to, with Woods’ serious knack for a good melody with quite a bit of irony streaming within his lyrics.
And it all works a charm here, with Sparky sparking notions that he just might make it big.
