Michigan blues rock band Second Hand Mojo release single–and a beer line!

New Single and Beer!

Second Hand Mojo: L-R: James Hampton, Vern Springer, Chuck Riepenhoff, Scott Brokaw, Marg "Q" Andrew Speck

In Fall 2023, Rock At Night spoke with blues-rock band Second Hand Mojo about their single “Good Vibes” and the Detroit music scene. The band has now released a second single “Sister Surrender.” Second Hand Mojo, who always gives off a good time, rock ‘n’ roll party vibe, consists of Vern Springer (guitar, vocals), Chuck Riepenhoff (lead vocals) Scott Brokaw (percussion, vocals), MarQ Andrew Speck “Q” (keys, vocals) and James Hampton (bass, vocals).

According to vocalist/guitarist Vern Springer, “Sister Surrender” is a story in 3 acts. He says, “The first act the protagonist is a guy driving down a deserted road at night and he spots a woman dressed as a nun on the side of the road. This is Sister Mysterious. He pulls over and she gets in the car. In the second act, the woman becomes Sister Evil. This is where she decides to kill the driver and herself. In the third act, the driver talks her out of harming them both. She then becomes, “Sister Surrender”. She has surrendered herself to the light, if you will, and finds redemption from whatever brought her to the place, he found her in act 2. It is a story about salvation for two people in the end.”

As if making music weren’t enough, the band released a creme ale beer at their single release party at Canton Brew Works on April 27th.

What else is in the works for the band?

Second Hand Mojo has been busy playing shows, with bands like King’s X, Uli Jon Roth, and Trope. In May, the band is playing at Erie Rocks in Toledo and debuting their beer. In July, they have two festivals: Uncle Sam Jam in Woodhaven, Michigan and Wetzelland in Grover Hill, Ohio. They are also currently writing for the next recordings as well as preparing to release another single and the EP.

Rock At Night says: Complete with rumbling car, groovin’ guitar, and bass riff, “Sister Surrender” will give you that fun, 80s rock vibe. Nice lead guitar solo in the middle and the outro along with the infectious “no no no” harmonies. The uplifting feel will have you dancing in front of the mirror while getting ready to go out for the evening.
