Review: Brooklyn band Clone’s album ‘CL.1’

There is a regular yearly festival here in The Netherlands (The Hague) called ‘Crossing Borders’ and Brooklyn quartet Clone would surely fit within its program, as the band’s debut album ‘CL.1’ does exactly that – crosses quite a few borders between rock genres (and sub-genres).

The band’s lyricist/vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist LG Galleon and his crew (Gregg Giufree – drums, Max Idas – bass, Dominic Turi – guitar, keys) under the guidance of renowned producer Martin Bisi (Sonic yout, Swans, among others) simply pull all the stops and don’t hold anything back and rush through their swirling combination of shoegaze, (very loud) dream pop, emo, grunge and what not else here with each member giving the last bead of sweat to make the band’s guitar-driven sound a uniform, detailed and very loud but discernible sound.

It is a sound that could stem from from the late sixties to yesterday and still fully its own, with, luckily, nothing held back.
