Rock At Night attended the Hamtramck Music Festival over Labor Day Weekend in search of fresh bands. Well, we were really impressed with Extra Arms and their melodic pop punk/garage rock sound. Think, Bowling for Soup, Superchunk, or even The Dollyrots. Their new album Radar has been on repeat in the car and home stereo. So, of course, Rock At Night had to speak with Ryan Allen, lead singer/songwriter with the band. He has a long band history and caught some fame with Thunderbirds Are Now!
In this interview, Ryan Allen discusses songs from the new album Radar like “Inflatable Boys” (it’s about toxic masculinity), “Space & Time” (it features a steel pedal guitar) and “I Don’t Want to Surrender” (an anti-work anthem). He also discusses his musical history, the band’s cover of Devo’s “Gates of Steel,” and the band’s video featuring Eaglebones Falconhawk of Aqua Bats! A really fun interview!
