Review:Living in Shadow’s album Neon Burning – Release date October 7, 2024
Vocalists are often considered a band’s heart and soul. Their ability to convey lyrics with depth and passion can transform a simple melody into a moving experience. When vocalist Zoe Gilby starts singing, you can hear the influences of such jazz legends as Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday, and Ella Fitzgerald. Zoe Gilby and multi-instrumentalist Andy Champion are the creators of Living In Shadows. They have recently released an album titled Neon Burning, a gem of an album.
“Cast Away” is a testament to the exceptional talent of this band, with its beautiful odd-time signature. “Who Are You” is a showcase of Zoe’s incredible vocals, a voice that is both seductive and powerful. The musicians’ performance of this song and others, such as the beautiful and haunting title track,’ Neon Burning,’ is awe-inspiring. Every song on this album is very listenable and enjoyable, as the mix of jazz and pop is a rarity in music these days. Zoe Gilby is one of the finest female vocalists you will hear in today’s music, and Andy Champion’s talent and musical ideas shine through in every song.
