Jack Moore, son of legendary Thin Lizzy and blues guitarist Gary Moore, has drawn inspiration from childhood guitar lessons with his late father in his new song, ‘A Part of Me’.

Released today, ‘A Part of Me,’ is an upbeat, radio-friendly track showcasing Jack’s guitar prowess, is the second single from his upcoming debut album with Polish multi-instrumentalist Quentin Kovalsky. The release of ‘A Part of Me’ coincides with the 14th anniversary of his father’s passing.

Gary Moore sold over five million albums during his remarkable career. Known for hits like Out In The Fields, Parisienne Walkways, Empty Rooms, Still Got The Blues, and Oh Pretty Woman, Moore made his name as a heavy rock guitarist before switching to Blues. He performed with Thin Lizzy during two notable stints which included the iconic Black Rose album in 1979. He passed away on February 6, 2011, at the age of 58.

Jack said: “I owe so much of my guitar technique to my dad and to the lessons he gave me. He was a great teacher, both actively and passively. With him it there was always a heavy emphasis on feel and sincerity, just making whatever you did sound like you.

“He would make me go off on my own and learn so as to develop my own style, and I’d check back, and he’d have notes ready to talk to over with me. Though, he didn’t often have to say much – it was usually written across his face whether what I was doing was good or otherwise. If it wasn’t good, he’d let me know. He was such a perfectionist. One of the key things I focused on was vibrato, and I strived to get that right.

“So, yes, I make no hesitation in saying that the solo on ‘A Part of Me’ is inspired by dad’s teaching and playing. I appreciate people will always make comparisons because of who my dad was, but I embrace that. If I can make one person smile because my work has made a connection to my dad’s work, then I’m happy too.

“I think working on the vibrato allowed me to channel my personality through the strings. You can really tell a story like that. With the guitar you can alternate between happiness and melancholic states, tenderness and aggression. It really is a wonderful vessel for emotion.”

‘A Part of Me’, Jack added, was written about someone who had helped him through a tough time in his life.

“I feel people will be able to resonate with the lyrics if they have gone through a tough patch but have had someone supporting them the whole time. I guess now that I have said that the person will know who they are!

“The song is also about invoking change in your life, and how having the courage to make big moves will make you wonder why you didn’t act sooner. It’s upbeat and I think people will resonate with it. I was a joy to put it together.”
